CASE STUDIES ON:Wood Energy Data Collection and Assessment and Decentralized Wood Energy PlanningThe Regional Wood Energy Development Programme (RWEDP) commissioned several case studies on data collection, assessment and analysis for wood energy planning in some of its member countries. The studies involved the analysis of national policies and strategies for wood energy development, and formulation of wood energy plans and programs. It included activities like data identification, secondary data compilation, selected primary data collection and the use of the Long Range Energy Alternative Planning model, also known as LEAP (see SEI-Boston for more information on the LEAP model) for policy analysis, planning and program formulation. In most cases the study was to be carried out not only at the national level but at the provincial and district-level as well. RWEDP commissioned these studies in support of its immediate objective 1 stating that RWEDP should aim “to contribute to an improved database on wood energy at regional and national level and to improve the capacity of institutions to generate, manage, and assess such data at regional, national and sub-national levels”. The specific objectives of the studies were to: a) generate actual experiences in wood energy planning activities in the country, b) provide on-the-job training in wood energy planning, c) develop local wood energy planning expertise, and d) define follow-up activities to strengthen wood energy planning capabilities in the country. The following countries have provided draft documents on the country case studies.
The case studies can be downloaded in Adobe Acrobat PDF format suitable for printing, duplication and distribution. (To download the free Acrobat Reader and find out how to use PDF files click here.)
