- A Case Study in North-West Bengal
Field Document No.60, 2001
This case study provides an excellent insight into the level of forest dependence of local people in North-West Bengal, for deriving fuelwood for both utilization and sale. It also highlights the importance of fuelwood collection and trade as a safety net of the migrant/displaced population in the area. It also highlights the impact of such collection on the forests and the local socio-economy, and traces the linkages between the wood energy sub-sector and other sectors.
It is sincerely hoped that this document will be useful to energy, forestry and development planners in India and other parts of Asia, who will recognize the contribution of wood energy in their national economies and promote its sustainable development.
